Memorial for the Victims of NS Persecution and Resistance from the Community of Bad Eisenkappel/Železna Kapla

In the lower part of the cemetery, near the entrance on the right side, there is a memorial that has been commemorating NS victims from the community of Bad Eisenkappel/Železna Kapla since 1960. On the memorial stone, 78 names are engraved. A separate inscription is dedicated to the native «Volkshelden» (People's Hero) Franc Pasterk-Lenart, as well as a separate memorial plaque in front of the memorial since the mid-1980s. In the community of Eisenkappel, the Carinthian-Slovene resistance against the national socialist regime began. Many Wehrmacht deserters from the surrounding valleys and villages hid as «Grüne Kader» (Green Cadres) in the forests and joined the Osvobodilna Fronta (OF, Liberation Front) under Ivan Županc-Johan and Stane Mrhar-Tirolc from 1942 onwards. Through the forced resettlement of many Carinthian-Slovene families from 1942 onwards, the OF received further support. This eastern focus of the Carinthian partisan movement is also reflected in the cemetery.
