Memorial Plaque for NS-Victims at Landskron People's House

Before its incorporation into the municipality of Villach in 1973, Landskron was an independent community. The community council instigated the installation of a memorial plaque in remembrance of the victims of fascism in Landskron at the southern outer wall of the Landskron People's House. It specifically commemorates six freedom fighters who died between 1934 and 1945. Four of them were murdered during the Nazi regime: Peter Melcher, as a socialist politician in concentration camp Dachau, and Valentin Klementin, Heinrich Brunner, and Milan Jelič, who were resistance fighters in what was known as the "Treffner Gang," a resistance group operating in the neighbouring valley, and were executed on December 23, 1944.
