Memorial Plaque for Supporters of the US Intelligence Operation „Greenup“ Innsbruck

On the night of February 26, 1945, three agents of the US-American intelligence service jumped from the Sulztaler Ferner during Operation Greenup: Franz Weber, a deserter from Oberperfuss, as well as Fred Mayer and Hans Wijnberg, two Jews who had managed to flee to the USA. They made an important contribution to the liberation of Innsbruck. This was only possible through the help of numerous women from Oberperfuss and Innsbruck. In Anichstraße 19, Margarethe Kelderer and her sister Eva Weber hosted the leader of the agent team, Fred Mayer.
After an excursion of the Gemeindemuseum Absam on the trails of Operation Greenup, one of the participants, Veronika Praxmarer, initiated a commemorative plaque for the merits of the involved women. Matthias Breit, director of the museum, wrote the text. On September 28, 2021, the memorial plaque was unveiled in the presence of LHstv. Ingrid Felipe, Bishop Hermann Glettler, and the mayor of Oberperfuss, Johanna Obojes-Rubatscher.
