Memorial plaque for Johann Orszag at the House of Friendship – Tiroler Kinderfreunde on the Hungerburg Innsbruck

Johann Orszag was one of the key figures in the establishment of the Social Democracy in Tirol. Professionally, he led the First Tiroler Arbeiterbäckerei (ETAB). On 21.5.1938, Orszag hanged himself on the attic floor of the ETAB, after having been denounced by an illegal National Socialist for the false accusation of financial irregularities. On the 50th anniversary of Johann Orszag's death, the Kinderfreunde Tirol and the "Bund der Sozialistischen Freiheitskämpfer" Tirol unveiled a memorial plaque in his honor on 11.6.1988 at the Kinderfreunde summer camp on the Hungerburg. The city of Innsbruck and the state of Tirol covered the costs.
