Memorial plaques for Jakob Gapp in the Laurentiuskirche Wattens

Father Marianist Jakob Gapp was executed on 23.8.1943 in the prison camp Berlin-Plötzensee due to his sharp criticism of National Socialism and was beatified in November 1996. On 17.12.2019, Pastor Alois Juen blessed two glass panels at the back wall of the Laurentius Church during the Rorate Mass. They show the last letter of Jakob Gapp before the execution of the death sentence with photos of his prison cell and the Laurentius Church from the 1930s. Parish curator Volodymyr Horbal initiated the project, which was realized under the guidance of Karl Wurzer, president of the Heimatkunde- and Museum Association Wattens-Volders.
