Father Marianist Jakob Gapp was executed on 23.8.1943 in the prison camp Berlin-Plötzensee for his sharp criticism of National Socialism. On the occasion of his 100th birthday, the parish council and the market community of Wattens, under the guidance of Hannes Erler, erected a memorial in a newly designed prayer niche of the church. The artist Max Schwaiger from Fritzens created the memorial with a bust and a commemorative plaque. Father Josef Süß, Provincial of the Marianists in Austria and Germany, consecrated the memorial site on 26.7.1997.
