Edith-Stein-Kapelle Patsch

Edith Stein joined the Carmelite convent as Sister Therese Benedicta of the Cross in Cologne in 1933. She was deported to Auschwitz on August 7, 1942, due to her Jewish heritage and was murdered there. Pope John Paul II canonized her on October 11, 1998. The chapel, designed by artist Helmut Strobl in the form of a 12-meter-high pyramid and named after the suggestion of writer Winfried Werner Linde after Edith Stein, stands at the new cemetery on the outskirts. Inside the chapel is a monumental rotating cross by Helmut Strobl, which remembers Edith Stein as Jew, woman, and Christian. Two menorah-shaped candlesticks stand before the altar. Mayor Josef Rinner was in charge of the overall planning. Priest Norbert Gapp blessed the chapel and the new cemetery on July 18, 2004.
