Memorial stone for civilian victims of World War II near the War Memorial Eben am Achensee

On May 4, 2019, the parish priest of Eben celebrated the renovated and redesigned war memorial from 1921 during the Florian festival, dedicating it at its new location in front of the storage chapel near the Notburga church. The community, under the leadership of the chronicler Johann Walser, erected a memorial stone for the civilian victims of the war in immediate proximity to the war memorial. The Jehovah's Witness Karl Weiroster, murdered in the Mauthausen concentration camp, was removed from the war memorial and placed on the new memorial stone. The left-wing resistance fighter Hans Vogl, born in Eben am Achensee, was beheaded in Munich-Stadelheim, Pankraz Braunhofer spent two years in prison for pulling down a Hitler picture, the 12-year-old Josef Ortner died in 1947 when he played with a wartime firearm. The memorial stone and plaques of the memorial are made of light Kramsach marble to emphasize the unity of the two memorial markers.
