Image plaque "Open Letters" for Jakob Gapp at the Franciscan Gymnasium Hall

The Marianist father Jacob Gapp was executed on August 23, 1943, in the prison of Berlin-Plötzensee for his sharp criticism of National Socialism and was beatified in November 1996. To commemorate the 50th anniversary, the senior class of the Franciscan Gymnasium Hall from the graduating class of 1954, under the initiative of Gerhard Rainer, commissioned the artist Ernst Friedrich to create an artwork for Pater Jacob Gapp in the entrance hall of the school. In his four-part tableau, Friedrich, with the help of his wife Eleonor, mounted a portrait of Gapp and excerpts from his "Confession" as well as from his death sentence. Parts of Haydn's Passion music were intended to illustrate the extent of the suffering in Gapp's life and death. Franciscan Provincial Pater Rupert Schwarzl and his predecessor Pater Wolfgang Heiss, both from the graduating class of 1954, conducted the blessing ceremony on July 3, 2004.
