Memorial for Otto Neururer in front of the Parish Church of Götzens

Otto Neururer, priest in Götzens, was murdered in the concentration camp Buchenwald on 30.5.1940 and was declared blessed in 1996. The Haller artist Manuel Schmid convinced the community and the parish of Götzens of his design for a bronze relief. Its right triangular half shows destroyed swastikas, while the left depicts the head of Otto Neururer and attributes of his faith: "Palm branch (and skull) as symbols of victory and eternal life, the strongly embraced Holy Scripture as the source of faith strength, the font basin as a reference to Neururer's pastoral work in the concentration camp and as the chalice of fate." The new memorial was blessed by Bishop Manfred Scheuer on 30.5.2015, the 75th anniversary of Neururer's death.
