Hans Vogl, Director of the Volksschule Erl, was executed on 30 June 1944 in Munich-Stadelheim for "aiding the enemy," "building communist cells, and promoting communist endeavors." On the occasion of the 1200th anniversary of Erl, the later local chronicle writer Peter Kitzbichler helped secure a commemorative plaque for Hans Vogl to be placed at Volksschule Erl. The text was written by the state chronicle writer Fritz Kirchmair. The dedication speech on 20 March 1988 was given by Volksschule Director Josef Wieser.
