Building named after Richard Zach

Memorial plaque at the summer camp renamed in 1977 after Richard Zach. The Graz teacher and writer Richard Zach (1919–1943) established a widely branched network of resistance cells among young people and published leaflets and the newspaper „Roter Stoßtrupp“, which reached as far as the Upper and Western Styria. He was arrested on 31 October 1941 «due to suspicion of having written communist slogans» and was sentenced to death by the Reich War Court, and was executed in Brandenburg on 27 January 1943, shortly before his 24th birthday. During his imprisonment, hundreds of poems were written, some of which reached the public indirectly.
