Memorial plaque at the Graz Theatre for Karl Drews. He was born on 29.10.1901 in Triest and was an actor and director on various stages in Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia during the 1920s and 1930s. Together with others, he established the state leadership of the KPÖ in Graz in 1940. At that time, he worked as an insurance representative and used this opportunity to establish contacts with several resistance groups in the Upper and Western Styria as well as in the area around Graz during his travels. The network was eventually discovered, Drews was arrested in early February 1941 and sentenced to death by the People's Court on 28. July 1942. He was executed in Vienna on 7. October 1942.
