Memorial Plate in Innerberg "Religious Resistance"

During the National Socialist era, religious customs and associations, school prayers, and processions were banned. The priest Josef Plangger, active in Innerberg, was arrested by the National Socialists because he did not allow the Gestapo to dictate the Sunday service schedule. After a three-week imprisonment and transfer to Gaschurn, Plangger was transferred to Osttirol, where he came into conflict with the Hitler Youth. Plangger was once again arrested and subsequently sent to the concentration camps Buchenwald and Dachau. He was only released from custody shortly before the end of the war. Since 2022, a memorial plaque in Innerberg commemorates Josef Plangger, which was erected as part of the project „15 Orte – 15 Geschichten“.
