Gauerziehungsheim Jagdberg Schlins

The Vorarlberger homes of the Kinderrettungsverein that were in state ownership were taken over by the National Socialists following the "Anschluss" and – like all other associations – integrated into the umbrella organizations of the German Reich. The Jagdberg, since the end of 1939 operated as a "Gauerziehungsheim" under the Feldkirch NS district school inspector Franz Ritter, was meant to educate children through ideological indoctrination into "useful" members of the "Volksgemeinschaft," with punishments such as arrest and physical chastisement for "deviant" behavior. After 1945, the educational home continued as an "Allgemeine Sonderschule," and today it houses the Catholic private school Paedakoop.
