Gasthaus "Zur hohen Kugel" Götzis

The guesthouse "Zur Hohen Kugel" in Götzis, run by the Götzner Communist, was an important hub of escape assistance during the National Socialism. Feurstein helped volunteers in the 1930s who wanted to fight on the side of the Republicans in Spain against the coup supporters of General Franco to illegally cross the border into Switzerland. Even after 1938, he helped numerous people persecuted by the National Socialists to flee and thus came under the Gestapo's attention. In 1944, he wanted to flee to Switzerland to avoid imminent arrest, but died in an as yet unexplained manner during the attempt.
