From among the over 700 patients treated psychiatriedly in the institution "Valduna" Rankweil between 1938 and 1941, 57 were born in a Bregenzerwald community. Most of them were murdered in the NS killing institute Hartheim or died in other so-called "healing and care institutions." In 2009, several communities in the region of Bregenzerwald decided to commemorate the victims of "euthanasia" with memorials at many places. In Langenegg, a stone plaque serves as part of a collective memorial site for all NS victims and victims of both world wars on the cemetery, commemorating four community members who were victims of "euthanasia": Theresa Höfle, Anna Maria Nussbaumer, Klara Maria Nussbaumer, and Anton Wagner.
