Josef Anton King (1922-1945) from Hörbranz was discharged from the Wehrmacht due to an eye condition and was employed as an interpreter. In this capacity, he tried to help Russian prisoners of war. King was denounced to the Gestapo, accused of conspiring with the prisoners of war, and was sent to the Mauthausen concentration camp on January 19, 1945. By the end of April, he was either murdered in the gas chamber or shot. Since 1988, a memorial stone at the cemetery in Hörbranz commemorates him.
