Carl-Lampert-Gedenkort Kirche Göfis

Carl Lampert, born in 1894 in Göfis, was the highest-ranking representative of the Catholic Church who was imprisoned, tortured, and finally executed by the National Socialists. Shortly after the "Anschluss" of Austria in March 1938, Carl Lampert came into ever stronger conflict with the ruling regime due to his statements. After imprisonments in the concentration camps Dachau and Sachsenhausen-Oranienburg, Lampert was "gauverwiesen" in 1941 and banished to Stettin. On November 13, 1944, in Halle an der Saale, he was beheaded on charges of espionage. Until the reconstruction of the church, the urn was kept in the parish office and displayed before the altar during the service on the anniversary of his death. The memorial site with the urn was inaugurated on March 8, 1975.
