Carl-Lampert-Grabstein Friedhof Göfis

Carl Lampert, born in 1894 in Göfis, was the highest-ranking representative of the Catholic Church who was imprisoned, tortured, and ultimately executed by the National Socialists. Shortly after the "Anschluss" of Austria in March 1938, Carl Lampert came into ever stronger conflict with the ruling regime due to his statements. After being imprisoned in the concentration camps Dachau and Sachsenhausen-Oranienburg, Lampert was "gauverwiesen" in 1941 and banished to Stettin. On November 13, 1944, in Halle an der Saale, he was beheaded on charges of espionage. The gravestone for Carl Lampert was installed in 1975 after the inauguration of the new church on the cemetery, previously it was located in the area of the priests' graves of the old church.
