Carl Lutz (1895-1975) was Swiss consul in Bregenz from 1954 to 1961. During the Second World War, he saved 62,000 Hungarian Jewish women and men from deportation to the concentration camps through a protective passport campaign in his capacity as a diplomat in Budapest. The city of Bregenz honored Carl Lutz by naming a street in his honor in 2020.
