Brezovica 42, storage of weapon depots under Strmcem

Memorial plaque is a stone plaque of size 0.50 x 0.60 m, which has a battle emblem attached on top, and below it a carved inscription painted in red. It is attached to a concrete anti-tank obstacle, a tetrahedron, with a side length of 1.40 m.

The stone memorial plaque with an engraved message was installed until 2023 on the façade, on the public side, of the fire station Brezovica pri Borovnici 42, but it was removed due to construction work on the building. On 23 June 2024, it was rediscovered and reinstalled by attaching it to the anti-tank obstacle - a tetrahedron, which was placed next to the building of the fire station on the land between the road leading to Strmc and the stream Šumnik, which flows along the building of the fire station. The memorial surface was additionally equipped with two information boards, which explain the events of 28 June 1991, when members of TO RS seized the weapons depot. The boards are of size 1.10 x 1.00 m and are attached to four metal profiles, about 2.50 m high.

The weapons depot was seized on 28 June 1991 by the 2nd reconnaissance unit of the 30th development group of TO RS, later the MORiS brigade, under the command of Corporal Rok Hrovatin. The unit consisted of 22 members. Most of them were locals from Borovnica and the surrounding area, who were well acquainted with the area and the depot. Access to the depot by JLA was blocked by the TO Laze unit, reinforced with Borovničans, with the help of NZ. Civil defence significantly contributed to the operation of removing the equipment from the depot.

The weaponry and military equipment from this depot significantly contributed to the increase in combat strength of TO units in a large part of the country. According to the assessment of the competent authorities, the seizure of the depot was one of the key turning points of the war. In 2016, the President of RS Borut Pahor awarded the members of the 2nd reconnaissance unit the honorary badge of freedom of RS.
