»At the end of November 1943, the Security and Intelligence Service discovered that some hostile elements had infiltrated the OF. After they admitted guilt, they were liquidated. In the new year of 1944, the Mengeš partisans discovered their bodies in a pit on Gobavica. This discovery of justified informants led to the Germans shooting 30 civilians in Mengeš on 8 January 1944. That morning, the Germans brought them to Mengeš on the meadow near Ravbarjev Castle and then shot them in groups of five with a machine gun. After the Germans completed their crime, they left them lying on the meadow and only in the evening could the municipal workers bury them in a common grave. This shooting was the first major German reprisal in the Kamniška region after the level of violence in the middle of 1942.«

»The killing was vengeance for the partisan liquidation of six occupier collaborators, previously active members of the OF. These were Slavko Kvartič and Bojan Sever from Domžale, Alojz Mejač from Komende, Franc Lipar from Nasovč, Alojz Plemelj from Cerkelj, Franc Polak from Mengeš. One group was justified under the Holy Trinity, the other on Gobavica on 29 November 1943, and their bodies were thrown into the pit. In December, they shot Janez Savšek, a Belogardist sympathizer of Stanko Rihter and Franc Šuštar. After a bloody massacre, the Germans found the bodies and pulled them out of the pit, then for punishment on 8 January 1944 shot the civilians.« (Partizan Memorials on
