Church of Saints Fabian and Boštjan on Polana

On 25 February 1944, the 14th Division, after a long march through the cold and snow across the Bohorje, spent the night in the village of Polana, settlement of Radež, and in the settlement of Okroglice, on its way to Styria.

Divisional photographer Jože Petek took a famous photograph of this march in the snow and fog under the church when he arrived in the village of Polana.

For many years, it was unknown where this photograph was taken.

In 1977, journalist Janez Kajzer and Joco Žnidaršič of the illustrated weekly ITD discovered this location and the marchers who often stand in the pose of former partisans, starting from Loka near Zidan Most heading towards the well-known Lovrenc (encian, opojna zlatica).

Mojca Luštrek mentions the date of the photograph's creation as 12 February 1944. On 25 February, the XIVth Division was already at the end of its march to Styria.
