Far away hill

On the distant hill, in the rearranged spaces of the former house of the forestry administration, the main or later central partisan hospital was also established. It began operating on 16 June 1942, and accepted its first seriously wounded five days later. It had 40 beds and an operating room and thus marked the beginning of the hospital units of the Slovenian central military partisan hospital in the Kočevski Rog. During the Italian offensive, it was empty, and the Italians burned it down. The staff immediately began building secret huts nearby. The first two, Jelen breg and Jelen žleb, provided shelter for the wounded during the harsh winter of 1942/43.
