Anton Velušček, Nova Gorica

The monument is in the form of a stone column with an engraved inscription and a relief of the face of the national hero Anton Veluščka - Matevž. It was made from Istrian marble by sculptor Janez Pirnat, and it was discovered on 1 May 1970.

At the unveiling of the monument, Dr. Aleš Bebler spoke, who had been Matevž's comrade-in-arms. The performance was given by the music band of the militia and the invalid partisan choir from Ljubljana, as well as the students and teachers of the Novo Mesto Gymnasium. The monument was unveiled on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of liberation — 1 May 1945 was indeed the day when Gorica was liberated. For the installation of the monument, workers from the Novo Mesto company for the repair of vehicles and machinery contributed 10,000 Yugoslav dinars. Money was also contributed by the Soška Power Plant, and the monument stands right in front of their administrative building at Erjavčevi 20 in Novo Mesto. At that time, the monument was handed over to the local community of Nova Gorica for protection.

The national hero became one on 4 July 1953.
