Fallen in NOB, Mačkolje, Italy

The monument was built in 1974. It is dedicated to 29 victims.

On the monument, the names of the 29 fallen are engraved. The youngest among them was 15 years old, born in 1929, while the oldest was 46 years old, born in 1897. The tragedy occurred on 3 October 1943, when during a large German offensive between Zazid and Rakitovce, near the home area, hostile units captured and killed twelve activists and fighters. Ten locals fell at that time, and a memorial stone was later erected on the local cemetery in their honor. There too are buried two unknown fighters of the Yugoslav army who fell during the liberation. Other fighters lost their lives near the home village, while many fell far from home, in the Dolenjska region, in Bosnia, on the Croatian territory. Some were taken to concentration camps. One of them died in the Tržaški Rižarni, three in the Austrian Mauthausen. It was necessary to destroy the partisan resistance. Already on 2 October 1943, the Mačkolje were also burned down.
