Workers' House

At Number 2 on the New Market square stood the Workers' House. In the 1920s it was the headquarters of communist organizations. After the ban, it was the headquarters of the Independent Trade Unions, the Independent Workers' Party, the Union of Workers' Youth, etc. Here were the offices of the communist newspapers Delavske novice, Proletarska mladina, Strokovna borba, Glas svobode, the workers'–peasants' newspaper Enotnost and the magazine Zapiski Delavsko-kmečke matice. On the square in front of the house were meetings, May Day celebrations, demonstrations, etc. Orjunaši frequently tried to break into the Workers' House and destroy it. A memorial plaque on the front of the house was unveiled on 21 September 1957.
