Branik, Memorial to Besednjak Angel

The person to whom this memorial refers is clearly ANGEL BESEDNJAK (Angelo Besednjak, partisan name Don), a partisan, national hero (born 16. 10. 1914, Branik; died 1. 11. 1941, Lesično, near Kozje, buried unknown where).

In RKD it is listed under EŠD 21710: Angel Besednjak (1894-1968), politician, journalist and publicist, to whom a plaque was erected on 3.7.1955 at the house with address Branik 223, in the settlement Cvetrož. Somewhere I came across information that the plaque was later moved to the building of the Local Community, Branik 75, where however there is only a plaque dedicated to Angel Besednjak, born in 1914, died in 1941.

Explanation 1: In the baptismal register of the parish Rihemberk (Branik), for Angel Besednjak, the place of his birth is recorded as Branik – Cvetrož no. 131. The later house number is Branik 223.
From the text of the memorial plaque on the building of the Local Community in Branik, it is possible to conclude that the plaque from house number 223 in Cvetrož (where the location of the removed plaque is still visible on the façade) was moved to the current location, Branik 75.
In the Register of Cultural Heritage, for EŠD 21710, in addition to the name Angel Besednjak, incorrect data are written, which belong to Dr. Engelbert Besednjak (1894-1968), who was born in Gorica.
