After the clash between partisans and the Volksdeutsche on 3 February 1945 near Ignac Žalik in Logarovci, the Volksdeutsche captured the wounded Ciril Jureš, then the district secretary of the League of Slovenian Youth for the Ljutomer area. After a terrible torture, he was hanged on 4 February 1945 on the Main Square in Ljutomer. At this location, before the present-day monument, stands a memorial. It was erected by KO ZB NOV Ljutomer. It was unveiled on 1 June 1957.
