Cerkno, Primary School Memorial NOB

The new building of the primary school in Cerkno was constructed with the help of a nationwide campaign, through which they wished to thank Cerkljan and its people for the hospitality shown during NOV. Half of the funds were provided by the Idrija municipality, and the other half by organizations in Slovenia and abroad. It was named OSNOVNA ŠOLA CERKNO SPOMENIK NARODNOOSVOBODILNE BORBE.

The school now bears the name Osnovna šola Cerkno.

The NOB memorial is an object and is marked with a plaque made of large metal letters attached to the wall in front of the main entrance to the school.

In the atrium of the school is a memorial plaque. On it it reads:

SPOMENIK
NARODNOOSVOBODILNEGA
BOJA

In the following section are listed the organizations and individuals, and the names of 50 largest donors from all over Slovenia, who contributed funds for the construction.

Note 1: The inscriptions, which were supposed to remind of the donors of the school construction in the foyer, were partially hidden by coat racks. As it appears, similar inscriptions continued on a higher level, but in front they placed display cabinets with stone relics. Thus, at the time of NOB, only the large wooden emblem on the left wall in the foyer truly recalls the event.
