Bronasta skulptura ribniške partizanske družine, Ribnica

The memorial stands on a stone plinth on the Gallus shore, before the entrance to the castle in the centre of Ribnica. In some slightly older records it is also referred to as the Memorial of Liberation. It is the work of sculptor Janez Boljka, unveiled in 1959 and standing on a low wall base. The bronze sculpture of a man, woman and child represents the Ribnica partisan family. The father, depicted with a rifle, is a symbol of defence of his family in the horrors of wartime. In the child's hands we can also observe a sieve, as a symbol of the »dry goods«, which is the most characteristic trade for the Ribnica valley.

In the castle, before which the memorial stands, was a partisan hospital after the Italian capitulation. It operated from September 10, 1943, when the Italian army surrendered weapons and left Ribnica, until approximately the end of October of the same year.
