Memorial Plaque in Gaschurn "Woman in Resistance"

The nurse Pauline Wittwer volunteered as a Red Cross helper in Feldkirch during the time of National Socialism. She repeatedly allowed French prisoners of war to receive food and clothing. Multiple denunciations and accusations led to her arrest by the Gestapo, who sentenced her to several months of detention. In 1941, she was secretly transported to the concentration camp Ravensbrück. Her imprisonment was cited as reasons of "political resistance" and "aiding sick individuals." A year later, she was released due to serious illness and near-total incapacity for work. Since 2022, a commemorative plaque in Gaschurn remembers Pauline Wittwer and her resistance against the National Socialists, erected within the project "15 Places – 15 Stories".
