Flaminio Cemetery, Rome

The memorial was erected in memory of approximately one hundred Yugoslav military prisoners, internees, and political prisoners who were deported from Yugoslavia in various ways during the national liberation war. Most of them died due to harsh living conditions in concentration camps and prisons throughout Latium, especially on the islands of Ponza, Pianosa, and Elba.

In the crypt of the memorial are the remains of 25 Yugoslav fighters, most of whom rest in a common ossuary.

The memorial was erected by the SFRY. Authors: sculptor Ljubomir Denković and Savo Subotin.

The memorial was ceremonially unveiled on September 22, 1978.

On the memorial site, on June 27, 2012, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Rome and the Association of Fighters placed a commemorative plaque for the fallen fighters of the Battle of the 18th of April 1941.

The stone plaque was made and placed by the civil initiative Za Primorsko, represented by Božo Novak, who was one of the speakers at the shorter ceremony at the cemetery. There also spoke the Slovenian ambassador Iztok Mirošič and Francesco Polcaro on behalf of the Italian partisans' association VZPI-ANPI. From Slovenia, Miha Pogačar from the society of the 30th Division of the 9th Partisan Corps also came to Rome. The Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia provided the necessary permission and arranged the procedure for the installation of the monument; the costs of producing the commemorative plaque were covered by the Slovenian Ministry of Labour, Family, and Social Affairs.

The commemorative plaque is located at the Flaminio Cemetery, although the deceased are buried at the Verano Cemetery.
