Franci Hlebce, Jamnik

OPIS SPOMENIKA:  The monument is made of rough unprocessed stone (height 42 cm), on
which is attached a marble plate with an engraved inscription. Here stand two stone
monuments. On the left is dedicated to the fallen fighter Franci Hlebcet - Dušan.

OPIS DOGODKA: Franci Hlebcet, born on 10th November 1915 in Kranj, was
the deputy commander of the 4th squad of the IV battalion of the France Prešeren
brigade. After mobilization on the left bank of the Savinja, he withdrew with his
comrades to the hillside above Jamnik. When the following morning he went with a
patrol to inspect the area above Kropa, he fell into the enemy position near
Sveti Sobota (Petelinovca). He was seriously wounded already in the first attack
but he withdrew to cover and from there continued to fire at the Germans until his
last strength. Until his liberation, he rested in a grave, which his surviving
comrades dug right at the place where the memorial monument now stands.
