The bronze statue of the politician Edvard Kardelj on a stone pedestal with an inscription was unveiled in 1983 in the City Park. Its author was the academic sculptor Stojan Batič, who first portrayed Kardelj in life in 1978. The statue's head was slightly turned aside, and Kardelj's right hand was in his pocket. During the time around the independence, the statue was repeatedly painted red, which is why it was removed from public space. Today it is located in the museum of the National Liberation in Maribor.
