[…] In February 1943 he was mobilized into the German army and sent to France. In December of the same year he fled from Munich to Slovenia and joined the National Liberation Front (NOV). He became a partisan of Prešeren Brigade and took part in battles in the Gorenjska and Primorska regions in the 31st division's assault battalion. He was wounded twice. He attained the rank of captain first class, and later that of reserve major. Between 1945 and 1947 he was attached to units of the People's Defence Corps of Yugoslavia (KNOJ). […] He was one of the first to publicly speak in the book Ukana about the murders of Slovene civilians.
