Italian soldiers together with the Belogardists withdrew from Kocelje and on the Dolenjevaška field encountered Tomšič's brigade, which stopped them and demanded the surrender and laying down of weapons. After the battle, which lasted all night from the 9th to the 10th of September, in the evening the Prešern's brigade came to the aid, which attacked the long enemy column on the road between Rakitnica and Dolenja vas from the left flank. At dawn the 2nd battalion of Gradnik's brigade joined the partisans in a renewed attack. The fighting became less and the fighters mixed among the Italians and started to disarm them. The Belogardists took advantage of the confusion and quietly fled towards Ribnica. In these battles five partisans fell, who were buried on the cemetery in Rakitnica. A large amount of weapons and also six haversacks were captured, of which two, with their crews, were sent to Grčarice, where the plavogardists surrendered after three shots.
A memorial plaque on the building of the former KS Dolenja vas recalls this event, the surrender of the Italian army. It was unveiled on 3rd September 1952.

Na Lončarski cesti, ki je glavna cesta v Dolenji vasi, se na osrednjem dela naselja ob gasilskem domu in pred športnim igriščem nahaja stavba nekdanje krajevne skupnosti. Plošča se nahaja na desni strani ob vhodu v poslopje, ki nosi hišno številko Lončarska 64.
