Dobniško jezero, Expulsion of the Carinthian Slovenes

On the 80th anniversary of the forced expulsion of the Carinthian Slovenes, a memorial was unveiled in the community of Finkenstein/Bekštanj on April 15, 2022, designed by Valentin Oman. It was created on the initiative of the local Slovenian cultural society Jepa-Baško jezero.

In April 1942, 25 Carinthian-Slovene families from the community of Finkenstein were taken from their homes without notice, interned in Celovec, and deported to forced labor camps. Their names are inscribed on two black stones, which stand on a base. In between is a white marble stele with a broken top and a metallic sculpture by Valentin Oman.
