On the German offensive of October 27, 1943, the dean Gomilšek tried to mediate with the German soldiers. He encountered Dr. Hermann Görger, who recognized him from the time of Ptuj prisons, which was fatal for him. After the ransacking of his apartment, he was taken away and on October 29, on the road out of Dobrniča near the Red Kal, he was shot two hundred meters from the first house. He was buried in Dobrnič.
