Brothers Žakelj, Žiri

Memorial plaque on Bartelčkovi house on Partizanska cesta in Žireh is dedicated to the fallen brothers Žakelj, who were born in this house. The memorial was unveiled on 23 October 1955 and restored in 1971.

Janez Žakelj - Anžon, born 8 May 1920 in Stari vas near Žireh, shoemaker, joined the partisans on 22 December 1941, participated in the peasant uprisings and the Dražgoš battles, later became a partisan of the Poljanska četa. During the Blegoška hay 3 August 1942 he wore German uniform, Germans captured him injured and treated him, but the next day, upon recognition, they shot him.

Pavel Žakelj, born 27 January 1916 in Žireh, tailor assistant, worked in Kranj at tailor Jakob Štucin - Cvetku and participated in the textile strike in Kranj in 1936, member of KPS, joined the Poljanska četa in July 1942 and was a political delegate, he fell on 16 July 1942 above Zadobje near Lučine after the fight with Blegoš.

Vinko Žakelj, born in 1913 in Stari vas near Žireh, tailor assistant, illegal activist and organizer of resistance, partisan of Cankarjev bataljon from 10 December 1941, fell in Dražgoš on 11 January 1942.
