The parents of Andreana Družina moved from Fiume to Ljubljana and then to Zagreb in 1929 due to fascist violence. Andreana joined the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) in late 1941 and worked with members of the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA); in June 1942 she left for the partisans and joined the fighters of Šercerjeva Brigade. She was wounded several times during the battles and was admitted to the KPS in 1943. In 1944 she was appointed political commissar of Postojna Planina (Slovene Central War Hospital), and later became an intelligence officer in the 15th Division and assistant commander of the intelligence center of the 7th Corps.

She was the last surviving national heroine. She died at the age of 101 on 7 March 2021.
