Barletta, Italy, memorial-ossuary of Yugoslav partisans fallen in Italy, burial site Barletta

Memorial Barletta, where the remains of more than 800 Yugoslav partisans lie, represents one of the three most significant memorials in Italy. The other two are located in Prima Porta near Rome and Sansepolcro in the province of Arezzo. The author of this impressive memorial is the sculptor Dušan Džamonja, while the architectural part was designed by the Zagreb architect prof. Hildegard Auf-Franić. In an interview published just a few years before his death, Džamonja highlighted the mentioned memorial as one of the works where he could fully express his expressive art. The entire memorial spans an area of over 2000 square meters and is located to the northwest of the Barletta cemetery, while the memorial itself covers an area of 70 meters in length and 20 meters in width. It is formed in two levels with a total height of 11 meters. On the metal plates are inscribed the names and surnames of the fallen, among them are also Slovenian names.
