In the year 1944, baracks were set up near the village

for the officers' school, which was also located in the village. Here

were higher and lower officers' courses, the commissars' school
miners' course, and the VDV course. The school operated from June

until winter 1944. From 1943 to 1945, a partisan basic school also operated in the village.

Officers' School GŠ NOV and PO Slovenia

Due to security reasons and more favorable conditions for work, the Officers' School GŠ NOV and PO Slovenia left Metliko. From May to October 1944, it was stationed in Geršiči and in the baracks in the direction of the village of Krivoglavice. In addition to the school's headquarters, higher officers', infantry, supply, miners', intelligence, and political commissars' courses operated here. However, since there were no conditions for work in winter conditions, the school returned to Matliko, where it remained until the end of the war.

A commemorative plaque on the gable of Martin Matkovič's house, number 6, where the school's headquarters was initially located, was unveiled by the committee of organizations of the military education of NOV and PO Slovenia on 3 September 1978.

On the same day, the municipal council of Metliko, following the decision of 29 June 1978, handed over the domicile certificate to the Officers' School GŠ NOV and PO Slovenia.
