The monument was unveiled with a one-year delay, in 1966, because the authorities initially did not allow a Slovene inscription alongside the Italian one on the monument.
The leaders of the resistance in Milje were Luigi Frausin and Natale Kolarič. 160 fighters were organized into the battalion Alme Vivoda.
