Memorial to the expelled from Slovenia, Lazarevac

In the year 1975, a memorial, a work of Miloš Vastič, was unveiled in Lazarevac in gratitude
to the Lazarevčans, who in World War II in 1941 accepted 300 Slovenians from
the sixth transport of Slovene refugees to Serbia. Forty-four years after its
unveiling, representatives of the municipality of Lazarevac, the municipality of
Trbovlje, and the Slovene embassy reached an agreement on its restoration. On
October 17, 2019, Bojan Sindjić, mayor of the municipality of Lazarevac, Maja
Krajin, deputy mayor of the municipality of Trbovlje, and Roman Weixler
representative of the Slovene embassy in Belgrade, and in the name of DIS Iztok
Tolar, together with members of the music school Marko Tajčević, unveiled the
restored memorial with a short ceremony. This commemoration signifies gratitude
to Slovene refugees for the inhabitants of Lazarevac, where the refugees found
new temporary homes. It has been confirmed that there has been long-term good
cooperation between the municipalities of Lazarevac and Trbovlje.
