The monument was erected in 1956 in memory of 9 victims from Babnega Polja, Italian soldiers from the Kravate Rose unit, who were shot on July 29, 1942. The Italians captured them during a raid and killed them.

It stands just above the forested Makadate road and encompasses a larger square pressed with stones and bordered by a stone slope. On the rear side is a stone slab of width 3.2 meters on a stone wall of the same width and height 190 cm. On it is embedded a memorial plate of width 65 and height 46 cm, which has a sloped cut edge on the left upper and right lower sides; above it is carved an emblem Triglav. The supporting wall is deep enough that due to its massiveness, there is a 35 cm wide shelf in front of the slab. The square with stones, dimensions 4x4 meters, where smaller pebbles are arranged with decorative gravel and flowers, surrounded by a wide sandy strip. We can reach this square from above on the road via a ramp, or from below via 7 steps. The monument is work of stonemason Valentin Vrhovec and was unveiled on November 29, 1956.
In the poetry collection Ulak, whose author is Vinko Šumrada-Radoš and published by the Museum of Human Revolution in Ljubljana with 1500 impressions, there is a poem titled Bones that speaks about this event.
The State Commission of the Federative Democratic Yugoslavia for Investigating Crimes of Occupiers and Their Helpers decided in Zagreb on June 16, 1947, to declare Italian general Maria Roatta, commander of "Comando Superiore FFAA Slovenia-Dalmazia / II.Army", responsible for many crimes committed by his units, including those against the population, including this incident in Jermendol, and declared him a war criminal.

Textual location description
Na cesti Stari trg - Babno Polje je na 6,5 kilometru na desni strani izogibališče, takoj nato pa na levi odcep za gozno cesto v hrib. Po 100 metrih se nam na levi strani pogled na spomenik nad makadamsko cesto.
