When the fighters of the I. Štajerski bataljona, after the attack on Šoštanj, frontal battle on Čreta and the 150 km long Brežiški march, returned to Griže, the bataljona dispersed on 7th November.

After the division of the Štajerski partizan bataljona into groups for wintering in Štajerska, there was no striking force that could carry out combat plans. Politically and militarily the leadership in Ljubljana decided to gather the Štajerski partisans who had remained in the Italian occupation zone, to firmly organize them, so that they could also go with others to help the weakened Štajerski partizan movement. With this purpose, they ordered the former commander of the Št. bataljona, Franc Rozman-Stane, and the former commanders of Celjska and Brežiška units, Petru Stante-Skali and Dušan Kvedra-Tomaž, to form a bataljona from the Dolenjski partizan units and to immediately move to Štajerska. In December of the same year, Franc Rozman-Stane founded the II. Štajerski bataljona on Dolenjsko, which had the task to move to Štajerska. They intended to cross the Savo near Litija, but due to betrayal, they failed. After several days of fighting on Tis and its surroundings, the bataljona returned back towards Znojil.
