Brdca nad Breginjem - Memorial to the Fallen Fighters Marko Redelong and Augustin Vrečar

Redelonghi was born 24. 4. 1912 in Zapotok in Beneška Slovenia. Upon the capitulation of Italy, he joined the NOV and soon became commander of the 1st battalion of the Briško-Beneška unit. Under his leadership, the battalion attacked the military airfield between Čedad and Vidm in 13. 3. 1944. The fighters destroyed 9 aircraft. They also attacked the house where German officers and non-commissioned officers were staying. The enemy suffered over 25 dead and several wounded, as well as significant material damage. On 16. 3. 1944, Marko Redelonghi was seriously wounded. He was treated on Brdca above Breginj. There he fell together with the wounded Augustin Vrečar during a German attack on 5. 5. 1944. Soon after, the Germans also raided Marko's birthplace, Zapotok, and tortured his father to death. Marko was named a national hero on 20. 12. 1951. The memorial on Brdca, approximately 2 km west of Breginj, was unveiled on 1. 5. 1947.

The grave of the national hero Marko Redelonghi is on the cemetery of the village Sedlo.
