»One of these immediately started to break through towards the Gorjans, which she succeeded in doing, while the other was surprised by the Germans, who suddenly appeared on her flank. This was the first unit of the first battalion under the command of the commander Alojz Cimperman. The unit found itself in a clearing and became a notable target for the Germans, who immediately formed into a firing line and started shooting at the partisans. Only with great difficulty and heavy losses did a small part of the unit manage to break out of the encirclement and reach the Gorjans, but a large part fell on the battlefield, and many newly mobilized partisans surrendered.12 Janez Hribar wrote in his memoirs that thirty-two fighters fell. 'The unit honorably fulfilled its task. Twenty-two heroes stopped the enemy's advance with their lives.' Janez Hribar states that besides the battalion commander Cimperman, who was killed by a mine, the following also fell: [..] the commander of the anti-tank gun Jože Miklavčič, [..]
